John
Busby Triumphs At The Barrasford Marrow Show.
Published 09/10/04
Stamfordham man John Busby was the winner of the 2004 Barrasford
Marrow Show. John scooped the £5 winners prize in
the event with a marrow reportedly grown from a seed taken
from last years winning specimen.
The event, now
in its twenty fourth year, also raised £750 for Macmillan
Cancer Relief, in memory of a former winner Clive Neil,
who died from cancer.
The Hexham
Courant reported that the judge for the Barrasford
Marrow Show travelled all the way from Texas to Northumberland
– and brought several other Texans with him.
Founder member
and Barrasford
Arms landlord Tom Milburn said: “It’s not a show
as such – it’s just a bit of fun. “The regulars wanted to
do something different from the usual leek shows, and it
has caught on. “There are 24 different names on the cup,
and there will be a different one for the 25th next year
– after that we might start to take it seriously.”
