Reported
Drugs Raid at River Hill Barrasford By Police
Published 11/01/07
On Wednesday 10th January 2007, whilst residents of the
normally quiet village of Barrasford awoke, Police were
preparing an early morning raid on the outskirts of the
village. At around 7am, Police officers allegedly raided
River Hill Farm - often cited on maps as Reiver Hill - in
what onlookers believe could be a drugs bust.
Rumor's spread
through the rural community like wild fire as residents
tried to find information on the flurry of activity from
Northumbria Police. Nothing is known of the occupants of
the beautiful rural property however it has historically
been let to tenants.
River Hill Farm
in Barrasford lies in a beautiful secluded spot overlooking
the River North Tyne and is accessible only by a Private
Road. This secluded spot could be wrongly seen by criminal
gangs as a discreet haven for
illicit activity. In reality the spot is popular with dog
walkers and anglers alike, as well as agricultural workers
going about their daily business on the Chipchase Castle
estate.
Suspicious activity,
like curtains remaining closed for weeks or the appearance
of large menacing guard dogs in the garden of a house, would
be unlikely to go unnoticed by eagle eyed ramblers. As yet
no media coverage has been devoted to the story with the
BBC, Tyne Tees, Journal and Evening Chronicle all failing
to mention the news item that has shocked this rural community.
It remains to be seen whether the local Hexham Courant newspaper
will shed more light on this development.
